I prefer to find out what the job will entail before I quote a price or estimate how long it will take. I find that this approach works the best and takes away any element of surprise when you get my final invoice.
I appreciate that that it is helpful to find out how much projects cost. Below I have indicated some sample costs for projects based upon a variety of real jobs. Please remember that all jobs are quoted on an individual basis since the needs of each client are unique.
Case studies
- 80 pages of content for a website (using a content management system). Source material was written from scratch, edited from available in-house documents and taken from interviews conducted with staff. Library of images supplied, final images selected by me. £2700 (approx £33 per page)
- Single page A4 property review article for estate agent. Source material written using estate agents' property details, a personal visit to property and occasionally from interview with owner/occupier. £45 - £65
- Staff training course for University academics. Custom - designed from scratch. Very limited source material. Included design time, meeting time and travel expenses, preparation time and providing PowerPoint slides on CD. Running two one-hour pilot courses and one final one-hour course £1600
- Updated content for website (using a content management system) £25 per hour. Time dependent on number and complexities of corrections or adjustments to be made.
- 700-word article on local small business for local newspaper. Source material written based on personal visit and interview with owners. £150
- 300-page University prospectus final press proofing check. To check colour balance, spot ink colours. Look for flaws and imperfections in type, paper and colours. Check accurate font, set and spelling, correct images, crops, alignments etc. Obtain overall impression for consistency. Two hours. £100
- Five exhibition banners (total of 411 words). Source material written from scratch. Library of images supplied by client, final images selected by me. Proof read final designs. £200
